Mark is a partner in the Wytheville office with over 20 years of experience. Mark has accumulated a substantial amount of tax and accounting knowledge specifically in dealing with small business, individual, estate and trust engagements and examinations of highly complex tax issues. Mark has over ten years of experience in business valuation and litigation support services including divorce settlements, estate and gift tax valuation and sale and acquisition transactions. Additionally, Mark specializes in healthcare, professional service enterprises, retail companies and is licensed as a Certified Quickbooks Pro advisor in dealing with small business computerized bookkeeping systems.

Mark took his studies to the College of William & Mary and graduated with a bachelor’’s degree in 1992. When not at work, Mark has served as a former Member of the VA Society of Certified Public Accountants– Technology Committee, current Board member of Brain Injury Services of Southwest VA, Inc., current Board member of Wytheville Community College Scholarship Foundation, Inc., co-founding member of the Wytheville Morning Rotary Club and serves as current member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the VA Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Hugh is a partner in our Newport News office. During his career, Hugh has worked with a variety of small to medium size businesses including, but not limited to government contractors, technology companies, physician/medical practices, automobile dealerships, real estate partnerships, manufacturers, hospital cooperatives, and non-profit entities. The services provided to these clients include extensive tax planning and compliance-related services.

Hugh concentrates in the government contracting industry. He is well-informed on financial statement audits and reviews of government contractors, including accounting for various types of contracts with numerous agencies of the federal government; accounting system assessment including job costing systems; cost allowability and allocability and internal control efficiency and effectiveness.

In addition to providing traditional accounting and tax services to clients, Hugh has developed expertise working with various clients on cash flow analysis, financial projections, LIFO inventory analysis, business valuations and business acquisition and merger strategies. Hugh is also aware of the qualification requirements for various state credit incentives under the Virginia Urban Enterprise Zone program and has been instrumental in qualifying many clients under this program.

Billy is a partner in our Kingsport office. He began his public accounting career in 1989 with Dent K Burk Associates, P.C. after receiving a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee. He is licensed to practice in Tennessee and Virginia.  Billy serves individuals as well as businesses in several diverse areas such as manufacturing, financial institutions, nonprofit organizations and certain governmental organizations. He consults with clients in various tax, auditing and accounting matters. A native of Kingsport, Billy is a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. He and his wife Laura have two children, Carson and Brandon. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA). He has served as an officer in all positions with the local Appalachian Chapter of the TSCPA. His community involvement currently includes serving as treasurer and member of the board of directors for the Rotary Club of Kingsport – Sunrise for the past ten years and member of the board of directors for the Kingsport/Sullivan County Chapter of the The University of Tennessee National Alumni Association.  In addition, Billy is an active member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport, where he has served on the audit committee and administrative committee.

Steve has over 30 years of professional experience and serves as a partner for Brown Edwards in our Charleston office. He has extensive tax and estate planning experience with high income individuals. In addition, he has assisted owners of closely held family businesses with tax planning, valuation, acquisitions and mergers, and succession planning.

Steve graduated from Morris Harvey College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and obtained an M.B.A. from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.

Steve is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the West Virginia Society of CPAs. Steve is a board member of Thomas Hospital Health Systems, a former board member of the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences, past president and board member of the Charleston Exchange Club, treasurer of Edgewood Country Club and MATRIC, and has served on the boards of the Kanawha-Charleston Soccer Foundation and the Kanawha Players.

In addition, Melissa is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.

Melissa graduated cum laude from Marshall University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting. She is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the West Virginia Society of CPAs where she serves on the Recruiting and Opportunity project group, and the Charleston Chapter of the West Virginia Society of CPAs. Melissa is a member of the 2012 class of Generation Next: 40 Under 40, a statewide awards program sponsored by The State Journal. She serves as board member and treasurer for the Children’s Therapy Clinic, treasurer for the Charleston Vandalia Rotary Club, past treasurer of the West Teays Elementary PTO and is a member of the Marshall University Division of Accountancy and Legal Environment Advisory Board. She has also served as program director for the West Virginia Futbol Club TOPSoccer program and has volunteered for Junior Achievement.

Tony is a partner with the firm and has more than 17 years of experience in tax and advisory related services.  His concentration areas include pass-through entities, family owned businesses, multigenerational wealth strategies, high-income individual planning and retirement planning.  Tony also has extensive experience with energy related and natural resource businesses, business structuring, business sales and acquisitions, reorganizations,  Virginia Enterprise Zone incentives and individual tax planning.

Tony is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a Master of Accountancy including a concentration in taxation.  He is also a graduate of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a business administration minor.  Tony is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and recognized as a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).  He is also a member of the Tax and Personal Financial Planning sections of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  Tony currently serves on the Carillion Tazewell Community Hospital board and is active in local youth sports with his three children.
