In 1967, Bluefield, West Virginia firm, Fred P. Edwards and Roanoke, Virginia firm, C.A. Brown merge to form Brown Edwards, CPA.
Brown Edwards expands to Bristol, VA with the acquisition of local firm, Meadows & Associates.
Brown Edwards expands into Lynchburg, VA with the acquisition of the local office of then Big Eight firm, Coopers Lybrand.
Brown Edwards expands into Harrisonburg, VA with the acquisition of local firm, S.B. Hoover & Company LLP and for the first time, expands further into West Virginia with the acquisition of Charleston, WV firm, Chambers, Paterno & Associates, AC.
With these acquisitions, Brown Edwards now has more than 200 associates in seven offices.
Brown Edwards acquires Roanoke firm, Equi & Co., P.L.C. Former Johnson Equi owner and managing partner, Charles F. Equi, brings over 30 years of experience in accounting, taxation, and business advisory services.
Brown Edwards acquires Dent K. Burk Associates, P.C. that has offices in Bristol, VA and Kingsport, TN and Hodges, Jones & Mabry, P.C. with offices in Blacksburg and Wytheville, VA.
With these unions, Brown Edwards will have nearly 300 associates in nine offices, and expanded into Tennessee for the first time.
Brown Edwards acquires the Roanoke practice of Dixon Hughes Goodman bringing a greater depth of expertise and resources to serve the needs of clients and strengthen Brown Edwards' position as the largest independent certified public accounting firm in our geographic footprint.
Brown Edwards acquires Charleston, WV firm, Gibbons & Kawash. The acquisition created one of the largest CPA offices in West Virginia.
The addition of Gibbons & Kawash significantly increased available resources and the size of the Charleston office to nine partners and 50 associates.
Brown Edwards acquires the Newport News practice of Dixon Hughes Goodman. The Newport News office is the seventh BE office in Virginia and tenth overall and allowed for a convenient location from which to serve the substantial BE client base in that area.
Brown Edwards acquires Harrisonburg, VA firm Yancey & Bowman, LLC.
With this union, Brown Edwards will have over 350 associates in 10 offices located in Blacksburg, Bristol, Harrisonburg, Lynchburg, Newport News, Roanoke, and Wytheville, Virginia; Charleston and Bluefield, West Virginia; and Kingsport, Tennessee.
Brown Edwards acquires the Roanoke and Lynchburg practices of Cherry Bekaert, LLP.
This acquisition not only solidified Brown Edwards’ position as the largest firm in these markets, with 15 partners and 92 professional staff between the two offices, but also provided the Cherry Bekaert clients more local resources and access to immediate and local decision making.
Brown Edwards acquires Richmond-based firm, Gregg & Bailey, P.C.
Brown Edwards has a substantial client base in the Richmond area and the new office allowed for a convenient location to serve them and expand the level of services we can offer to clients.
Brown Edwards acquires a majority interest in Covenant Real Estate Services, LLC, a full service real estate title and settlement firm, serving attorneys, lenders, developers, investors and REALTORS in assisting clients with all aspects of the due diligence required to purchase or refinance real estate.
This expansion of Brown Edwards’ service offerings are a natural fit with BE’s goal of being a one-stop-shop and most trusted advisor for our clients.
BE expanded our presence in the Richmond, VA marketplace with the acquisition of Mitchell Wiggins, which also included an office location in Petersburg, VA.
