Steve is an assurance partner in the firm’s Bristol office. He has performed the concurring review for several of the firms SEC engagements. He has assisted clients with SOX 404 compliance ranging from providing internal audit of previously documented systems to overseeing the complete documentation of the entire accounting system and controls. Steve oversees the assurance practice in our Western Division and possesses accounting expertise in the areas of construction and energy as well as being the firm’s Energy Niche leader.
Steve is a graduate of Bluefield State College with a B.S. in Business Administration concentrating in Accounting and an A.S. in Mining Engineering Technology. Before joining Brown Edwards he worked underground as a section foremen in the mining industry. He has been with Brown, Edwards & Company since 1985. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Steve is active within his community and previously served as treasurer of the Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce for over ten years. He is a past president and past treasurer of The Rotary Club of Princeton. He has served on various other boards including being a founding director, president and treasurer of the PikeView High School Foundation. He has also served on the finance committee of the Advent Christian General Conference of America.

Valerie is a partner in the Charleston office with over 30 years of professional experience in a wide variety of areas. Valerie has directed audits of many closely held businesses, employee benefit plans, energy industries, and nonprofit organizations. She has consulted with clients on matters ranging from regulatory compliance to operational issues and internal control. Her clients include professional firms, retailers, wholesalers, contractors, colleges and universities, foundations, religious organizations, and energy industries.
Valerie has been a contributing author and technical reviewer for nationally distributed publications and a featured speaker at industry conferences.
Valerie graduated summa cum laude from Marshall University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Valerie is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the West Virginia Society of CPAs where she has served as chair of various committees, and the Charleston Chapter of the West Virginia Society of CPAs. She is also a member and past treasurer of the Rotary Club of Charleston; a member of the Marshall University Division of Accountancy and Legal Environment Advisory Board, and a member of the cultivation committee for Women in Economic and Leadership Development. She also teaches financial literacy to teenage parents through a program at her church.
Valerie was honored as the AICPA 2012 Woman to Watch–Experienced Leader by the West Virginia Society of CPAs.

Harold L. Holstein, CPA, CMM, is a tax partner with Brown, Edwards & Company, L.L.P. He has been in public accounting since 1995. He has also worked in private industry with a publicly traded company for six years prior to moving to public accounting.
Harold graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1988 with a BS degree in Accounting. Over his career, Harold has served a variety of business entities including construction, oil and gas production, timber, mineral extraction, and other privately owned businesses. Services provided for these clients have included compiled financial statements, tax preparation, tax planning and audit support, continuity planning in family businesses, assistance in developing entity structures, assistance with drilling and operating agreements and other advisory services. He has also been involved with preparing forecasts and pro forma statements for use in obtaining financing. While working for the public company Harold had extensive involvement with multi-state tax reporting. At Brown Edwards, he has worked with many clients that file in multiple states. Harold prepares and presents at the firm’s annual construction symposium and at other events on current and pending tax issues. He has achieved the Professional Certified Mineral Manager status through the National Association of Royalty Owners CMM program.
Harold is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is active with NARO, WVLMOA and IOGA through the firm’s associate membership.
