Timothy J. Gibbons is a Director at Brown Edwards in the Charleston office. He has provided valuation and financial advisory services for numerous purposes including estate and gift taxation, mergers and acquisitions, buy/sell agreements, corporate and strategic planning, ESOPs, shareholder disputes, marital dissolutions, and other tax, litigation, and corporate related matters.

Mr. Gibbons’ experience includes business valuations of entities in numerous industries including manufacturing, wholesale distribution, energy, retail, construction, healthcare services, professional services, food service, and holding company/estate planning vehicles. Mr. Gibbons has also provided litigation support services related to business valuations, shareholder disputes, marital dissolution, wage impairment, lost profits in connection with business interruption, and other business matters.

Prior to co-founding Gibbons & Kawash, A.C. in 1992, Mr. Gibbons co-founded a predecessor firm in 1983 and was a supervisor at Main Hurdman (now KPMG) from 1978 through 1982.

Kelli has 16 years of experience providing accounting, tax, and consulting services to individuals and businesses. She specializes in income tax preparation and planning for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts as well as financial statement services. She also consults with clients regarding accounting software applications and holds the Personal Financial Specialist credential through the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Kelli graduated from Marshall University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting.

Kelli is a member of the AICPA, the West Virginia Society of CPAs, the Charleston Estate Planning Council, and serves as past-treasurer of the Charleston Chapter of the West Virginia Society of CPAs.

Rob has over 20 years of professional experience and served as the Director of Assurance Services for Gibbons & Kawash. He has extensive experience in financial reporting, accounting, internal control, auditing, review, compilation, and agreed upon procedures professional services for closely-held businesses and public sector entities including real estate, hospitality, manufacturing, retail, wholesale, media, and an extensive concentration in various nonprofit organizations and state & local governmental entities. Rob is active in the AICPA’s Governmental Audit Quality Center and served as the Director assigned to the Center for Gibbons & Kawash.

Rob graduated Magna Cum Laude from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting and a minor in economics.

Rob is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the West Virginia Society of CPAs, and the Charleston Chapter of the West Virginia Society of CPAs, and the Governmental Finance Officers Association, and is a Chartered Global Management Accountant. Rob is a current board member of West Virginia Kids Count, a local youth sports coach, he is active in the local community and in his church.

As an audit partner in the Charleston office of Brown Edwards, Matt supervises the preparation of for-profit client financial statements and provides consulting in the area of information systems and general business matters as well as business valuation services and fraud investigation as they relate to the construction industry.  In addition to his accounting expertise, Matt has experience as a cost analyst and as an industrial engineer and has worked with civil engineering firms in design and drafting.

Matt holds a Regents Bachelor of Arts with a post-graduate certificate in accounting from West Virginia State College, earned his Master of Business Administration degree from West Virginia Graduate College (Marshall University), and is also a Certified Valuation Analyst and a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Accounting.  Matt is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the American College of Forensic Examiners, the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, the Center of Economic and Industry Research, the West Virginia Society of CPAs, and is an associate member of the Contractors Association of West Virginia.

Ruth is a taxation partner in the Charleston office and concentrates her services in income, estate taxes and planning, and small business financial reporting.  She has represented taxpayers before the IRS and West Virginia.  She is a lecturer and author of several articles on various tax related topics.

She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.  Ruth sits on the board of directors and finance committee for the YWCA of Charleston where she also served as treasurer.  She is a member and past president of the Optimist Club of Charleston.  She was a 1986 summa cum laude graduate of West Virginia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Valerie is a partner in the Charleston office with over 30 years of professional experience in a wide variety of areas. Valerie has directed audits of many closely held businesses, employee benefit plans, and nonprofit organizations. She has consulted with clients on matters ranging from regulatory compliance to operational issues and internal control. Her clients include professional firms, retailers, wholesalers, contractors, colleges and universities, foundations, and religious organizations.

Valerie has been a contributing author and technical reviewer for nationally distributed publications and a featured speaker at industry conferences.

Valerie graduated summa cum laude from Marshall University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Valerie is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the West Virginia Society of CPAs where she has served as chair of various committees, and the Charleston Chapter of the West Virginia Society of CPAs. She is also a member and past treasurer of the Rotary Club of Charleston; a member of the Marshall University Division of Accountancy and Legal Environment Advisory Board, and a member of the cultivation committee for Women in Economic and Leadership Development.  She also teaches financial literacy to teenage parents through a program at her church.

Tim George is a partner in the Charleston office of Brown Edwards. He has extensive experience dealing with the financial and business issues of privately held companies and employee benefit plans. He has worked closely with various sizes of businesses particularly in the construction and engineering and design industries.

Tim received his B.S. degree in Accounting at West Virginia Institute of Technology and later attended the University of Akron where he received his M.S. in taxation.

Tim began his career in public accounting in 1994 with Humpal, Jones & Co., a local accounting firm out of Medina, OH while attending the University of Akron. Upon graduation from the University of Akron in 1996, he accepted a position with Chambers, Paterno & Associates, A.C. and has continued his career in public accounting with the firm up through its merger with Brown, Edwards & Company, LLP.

Tim is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. Tim is also a member of the Board of Directors for the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame and participates in CAWV Young Contractors Committee functions.

Harold L. Holstein, CPA, CMM, is a tax partner with Brown, Edwards & Company, L.L.P.  He has been in public accounting since 1995.  He has also worked in private industry with a publicly traded company for six years prior to moving to public accounting.

Harold graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1988 with a BS degree in Accounting. Over his career, Harold has served a variety of business entities including construction, oil and gas production, timber, mineral extraction, and other privately owned businesses. Services provided for these clients have included compiled financial statements, tax preparation, tax planning and audit support, continuity planning in family businesses, assistance in developing entity structures,  assistance with drilling and operating agreements and other advisory services.  He has also been involved with preparing forecasts and pro forma statements for use in obtaining financing.  While working for the public company Harold had extensive involvement with multi-state tax reporting.  At Brown Edwards, he has worked with many clients that file in multiple states.  Harold prepares and presents at the firm’s annual construction symposium and at other events on current and pending tax issues. He has achieved the Professional Certified Mineral Manager status through the National Association of Royalty Owners CMM program.

Harold is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is active with NARO, WVLMOA and IOGA through the firm’s associate membership.

Steve has over 30 years of professional experience and serves as a partner for Brown Edwards in our Charleston office. He has extensive tax and estate planning experience with high income individuals. In addition, he has assisted owners of closely held family businesses with tax planning, valuation, acquisitions and mergers, and succession planning.

Steve graduated from Morris Harvey College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and obtained an M.B.A. from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.

Steve is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the West Virginia Society of CPAs. Steve serves on the board of the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences, is past president and board member of the Charleston Exchange Club, treasurer of Edgewood Country Club and MATRIC, and has served on the boards of the Kanawha-Charleston Soccer Foundation and the Kanawha Players.

In addition, Melissa is a Certified Quickbooks ProAdvisor.

Melissa graduated cum laude from Marshall University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting. She is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the West Virginia Society of CPAs where she serves on the Recruiting and Opportunity project group, and the Charleston Chapter of the West Virginia Society of CPAs. Melissa is a member of the 2012 class of Generation Next: 40 Under 40, a statewide awards program sponsored by The State Journal. She serves as board member and treasurer for the Children’s Therapy Clinic, secretary/treasurer for the Charleston Vandalia Rotary Club, past treasurer of the West Teays Elementary PTO and is a member of the Marshall University Division of Accountancy and Legal Environment Advisory Board. Tony has over 20 years of experience specializing in tax planning and compliance for privately-owned businesses and their owners. Tony serves clients in a number of specialized industries including law firms, medical practices and other professional services. His experience includes assisting clients with evaluating choice of business entity and developing tax strategies for addressing particular transactions.

Tony is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the West Virginia Society of CPAs, and the Charleston Chapter of the West Virginia Society of CPAs. He is an active member of the Federal Taxation project group of the West Virginia Society of CPAs. Tony is also an active member and past president of the Charleston Optimist Club.
